Tanner received his J.D. with Honors from The University of Chicago Law School in 2021. At the Law School, Tanner was a member of the selective Doctoroff Business Leadership cohort and completed a unique course of study combining fundamental and advanced business and law courses with co-curricular experiential opportunities in business, business law, and entrepreneurship. He spent both law school summers at the Houston offices of Vinson & Elkins LLP in the firm’s corporate practice groups and worked as a research assistant for GAILLE PLLC beginning in 2020.
Tanner received a B.S. in Strategic Management from the Marriott School of Business at Brigham Young University in 2018. While an undergraduate student, Tanner was a partner at Campus Founders Fund (a student-run venture fund affiliated with Kickstart Seed Fund) where he sourced deals, heard fundraising pitches, conducted due diligence, and participated in final investment decisions. He also spent two semesters as a teaching assistant for the Business Law course offered at the Marriott School of Business and worked for Sunroc Construction as a fuel and lube technician performing maintenance on heavy earthmoving equipment.
Prior to his undergraduate study, Tanner worked for FMC Technologies (now TechnipFMC) as a wireline operator and for Halliburton Energy Services as a hydraulic fracturing service operator in the Denver-Julesburg (DJ) Basin. Tanner has over 6,700 hours of oilfield experience including wiring and rebuilding perforation tools, supervising wellhead valve control teams, directing rig-up and rig-down operations, managing chemical inventories, operating cranes, blenders, gellers, sand-moving equipment, and high-pressure hydraulic “horsepower” pumps, and driving a wide variety of Class A and Class B commercial vehicles transporting hazardous materials and oilfield equipment.
